Ever since I first saw the movie SEVEN SAMURAI, I have been fascinated with the culture of pre-modern Japan or Feudal Japan. A time when the sword governed the way of life, or so I like to think.
As I watched the countless samurai flicks over the years, one character keeps popping in my head, and thats Yagyu Jubei. Jubei actually did exist, but little is known about his life, only that he was an expert swordsman and wore an eyepatch, but even the patch is pure speculation. It is said that he lost his eye while training with his father as a young boy....what a bad ass!
anyhoo, I thought of a young teenage Jubei and decided to do a sketch
Finally back from a 4 month vacation, it was much needed and very relaxing! Now its time to get back to work! I have been itching to draw on my Cintiq...and my first sketch was a old-timey mexican soldier of sorts.
I went to Mexico for my vacation, to visit the extended family. Sadly, nobody wears those huge sombreros anymore.
This is a new year, 2009. I shall attempt to keep a blog this year along with sketches and random thoughts.
In early February a stop motion film called Coraline opens nationwide. I had the pleasure of working on this film, it is my 4th film. The people I worked with were all wonderful and so talented as well. In the end it, the look of the film is really spectacular! So everyone go see it!
